The Catholic Church appealed to people not to go and see a new Mexican movie about gay parenting.
In La Otra Familia (The Other Family), Mexican director Gustavo Loza deals with obstacles faced by gay couples with children.
Despite a positive portrayal of the church (a priest who marries the gay couple and supports them in adopting their child), Cardinal of Monterrey, Francisco Robles Ortega says the film "sews confusion into the public as to what family is" and that "two men or two women having a family cannot be called a family or an alternative family as is the case in this film".
"The discourse of the church in Mexico is homophobic, cruel and even destructive for homosexuals" responded Loza in the magazine Proseco.
"Mexican society has changed and a new discussion on the subject of family must be opened."
